Washington State Japanese Language Speech & Skit Contest

The annual Washington State Speech and Skit Contest provides Japanese learners of all levels with the opportunity to compete with like-minded, skilled, and passionate high school students from all across Washington State. Individuals delivering speeches may choose one of five levels-- 1, 2, 3, 4, or heritage-- depending upon their year of study, while skit groups may choose from one of three-- beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Contest winners are judged on originality, content, and delivery. Speech contest first, second, and third place prize winners are awarded a Kinokuniya Books gift card and plaque. The winning student of the level four speech division is awarded a Nippon Express Travel-sponsored trip to Hyogo prefecture, where they will have the unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture and language firsthand.

The Speech and Skit contest is held in early spring by the Hyogo Business and Cultural Center, Consulate General of Japan in Seattle, Washington Japan-America Society, and Washington Association for Teachers of Japanese. Registration opens in late-winter, and performances are held in mid-March. Learn more about guidelines, prompts, and rules at https://hyogobcc.wixsite.com/wajssc
